Reinforced Link Building

I consider myself pretty “savvy” when it comes to link building methods and search engine optimization, and I am a frequenter of webmaster forums… but I don’t often hear too much about what I’ve coined “reinforced link building”. It probably has a technical name, but since I don’t really see too many people talking about it, I don’t know the given moniker.

Now, before I go any further – I am not one to give out search optimization advice based on hearsay, much unlike thousands of wannabe SEO’s who spread their search engine optimization gossip that they read about on some forum or blog somewhere. Typically when I say something works, it’s because I’ve done it myself. In the case of reinforced link building – I haven’t tried it, but I think it might be a viable, and effective, link building method.

Here is a very crude representation of what I am talking about (you can click on it to make it larger):

Basically, you somehow obtain a direct link from an authority website, preferably one that is topically related to your website, and then begin to build links to the authority website that is linking to your website.

Of course, as mentioned before, I have not tried this myself. While I have seen the process alluded to in a few different locations and I think that it might be pretty beneficial – I don’t know if the effort involved in this process would produce benefits worth the substantial effort and/or costs.

I’m pretty interested in learning new things in the search engine optimization field, and while I have a solid grasp on things – there’s always room for improvement. Especially considering the stance Google is taking against paid linking strategies, it’s a good idea for website owners to know what their options are when it comes to safe link building practices.

I welcome any insight or thoughts on the topic of reinforced link building.

“…and then begin to build links to the authority website that is linking to your website.”

Would this mean using other websites you control to link to the authority website?

This isn’t what I was referring to, but it might work, though I would think that links from non-affiliated websites (or websites that were hosted in different parts of the country or world) would work better… all of this is speculation on my part until I try it out.

Basically I was thinking that once you receive an inbound link from an authority site, which can be done fairly-easily if you employ a form of selective article marketing, you build up the link popularity of the “linked from” page with forum postings, blog postings or even mainstream article marketing.

All of this being said, I’ll say this. I have multiple websites hosted on the same server, and all of my websites have the same IP address. It seems that I get much more benefit out of receiving inbound links from other websites (different IP addresses) than I do from links from my own websites. Based on what I’ve seen with my own websites, if you’re trying to build the link popularity of an authority website linking back to one of your other websites it might be construed as a reciprocal link. However, this is beyond my scope of knowledge and I may be way off-base on this one.

Hopefully this clear up what I was referring to, though.
