File Storage with Google Mail

Because of the number of times I’ve lost everything on my hard drive, whether it was due to an OS failure or a hard drive failure – I’ve learned the importance of backing up my data.

Now, this might not be news to some of you, and I’ve actually read that it was possible before, but you can currently use your Gmail account as a portable hard drive. Basically, you install a small program (Gmail Drive Shell Extension) and then an icon shows up under MyComputer for your “Gmail Drive”.

Again, this might be old news to some – but I’ve found it handy to backup my files while I am away from home. It may not be perfect, but it seems to work out pretty well for me.

You can get the lowdown on how to install it and how to use it on the engadget.com website:
